English is the language of work

An official language of Kenya and the language of every university lecture, exam and business letter. Your assistant writes and speaks it as a first working language: no translation layer, no “please rephrase”.

What that means day to day
  • Client emails and chat replies that go out without you proofreading them
  • Phone and video calls with your customers, suppliers and partners
  • Reports, proposals, newsletters and social copy written in natural English
  • Spoken and written English tested before any candidate reaches you

A deep graduate pool

Tens of thousands of graduates a year in business, ICT, finance and communications, and a remote-work culture a decade old. We take the top 5% of applicants and train them on our tools and on AI before they meet a client.

A rate a small business can sustain

Questions

What businesses ask before hiring a virtual assistant in Kenya.

Cost, English, time zones, vetting, contracts and security, answered plainly.

At Virtual Wise, $8 to $15 an hour depending on the role and the assistant’s experience: general, executive, e-commerce and bookkeeping assistants from $8, marketing assistants from $8 to $15, and web and AI automation assistants from $9 to $12. You are billed monthly for the hours worked, with no deposit, no placement fee and no long-term contract. Twenty hours a week with a general assistant is about $700 a month.

Three practical reasons. English is an official language of Kenya and the language of university education, so written work needs no translation layer. Kenya is on GMT+3, which overlaps the whole UK and European working day and the US East Coast morning, and we shift the day for clients who need afternoon cover. And the graduate pool is deep enough for a managed company like ours to be selective: we take the top 5% of applicants.

Native-level for business purposes. English is the medium of instruction from primary school through university, and the language of Kenyan business, law and media. Our assistants write emails, reports and social copy in natural English, and every candidate passes a written and spoken assessment before they reach a client.

Kenya is GMT+3 all year. A standard Kenyan working day covers 9am to 5pm in London and Berlin, and 7am to 1pm in New York during Daylight Saving Time. For US clients who need afternoon cover we schedule a later Kenyan day; for Australian clients an early one. Hours are agreed on the discovery call and written into the match.

All of them are university graduates. From there we test written and spoken English, run a role-specific task on real tools, interview for judgement and communication, check references and run a background check. The top 5% of applicants are then trained on our ways of working and on AI tools before they are matched. Every assistant signs an NDA before day one.

No deposit, no placement fee and no long-term contract. Hours are billed monthly for the time worked, from five hours a week upward, and you can scale up or down week to week. If you want to stop, two weeks’ notice is enough.

We replace them at no extra cost; your team lead monitors the work weekly and can switch the match at any time. For sickness and leave, every assistant has a trained backup who already knows your tools, so the work does not stop.

Every assistant signs a confidentiality agreement and NDA before starting, logins are shared through a password manager rather than chat or email, and work happens inside your own systems with only the permissions the role needs. Access is removed the day an engagement ends. We can accommodate additional requirements for regulated industries.

Within 48 hours of your discovery call. You receive two or three matched profiles, interview the ones you like, and your chosen assistant starts with a week-one plan and a kick-off with your team lead.

Virtual Wise is a social enterprise, and the model only works if the assistant is paid well by Kenyan standards. Our assistants earn a professional salary, above the local market for graduate roles, with training, a team lead and a career path. Over 60% of the team are women. The difference between the client rate and the pay funds recruitment, training, management and backup cover.

Two or three profiles, within a day of your call.

Tell us the tasks, the tools and the hours. We match from our team in Kenya and you meet the people before anything is signed.
